View From Here: Scotland

27 Aug 2016Still digesting the fabulously dark festival of Scottish writing . Same again next year please.

View From Here premiered at Theatre503 over two weekends in August 2016, showcasing a variety of exciting new work by Scottish playwrights, including Rob Drummond, Oliver Emanuel and Maryam Hamidi. The following event in April 2017 focused on emerging and established playwrights from Yorkshire. West Yorkshire Playhouse supported a writer’s group from which two plays were selected to preview at View From Here, and other pieces included work by Zodwa Nyoni and JC Marshall.

View From Here: Scotland also brought the first of many future panel discussions on new writing, with Lisa Spirling (Artistic Director, Theatre503), Louise Stephens (Deputy Literary Manager, Royal Court) and Jennifer Tuckett (London Writers’ Week) discussing the landscape for new writing across the UK.

We’ve received excellent feedback from audiences and creatives for both events so far, and are thrilled to see connections already forming between the artists involved. We are excited for future opportunities to shine a spotlight on other regions across the UK, whilst supporting high-quality, diverse, emerging talent that is found in our capital city.

VFH: Yorkshire

We’re excited to bring you the next instalment of View From Here. This time we’ve sought out the best emerging and established writers in Yorkshire to be a part of our festival, and pushed ourselves to make new connections.
